When I was a kid I had a piano teacher who was a bit of a sadist.<\/p>\n
Whenever I hit a wrong note, he’d jam my finger with his pencil–a frequent occurrence.<\/p>\n
It took the joy out of practicing my favorite songs from the Monkee’s Greatest Hits
\nsong book propped on the music stand of our gleaming new piano. I guess I just didn’t want it badly enough.<\/p>\n
The best musicians practice every chance they get and reap big rewards. Even if they’re not professional, they experience the joy and satisfaction of making music for themselves and others. I envy them.<\/p>\n
Voice over is one of those skills that looks deceptively easy. You’re just reading aloud, right? <\/p>\n
Well not exactly, and certainly not if you want to get paid.<\/p>\n
Pros practice to become fluid readers, to speak someone else’s words as if they were your own. To nail timing, inflection -to deepen your understanding of character and tone, to experiment with vocal placement and texture.<\/p>\n
