If you’re working on your voice over demo or intend to do so in the future, you’re probably thinking about scripts.
Where will you get them?
Which are the best ones to use?
Will you violate a copyright if you use a script that’s running on the air?
Is it best to bypass all of this and just write the scripts yourself?
As always, I have a lot to say on this subject in this week’s short (but valuable) free voice over training.
If you’re doing your demo, it’s very important not to make some of the mistakes I talk about in the video.
I’ll clue you in here…
After you watch the video, I want to know your thoughts. Was this helpful?
Let me know your thoughts in the comments box. I want to read about what’s on your mind so I can support you.

Thankyou – I am trying to record a demo but end up waffling about myself – this was very helpful!
You’re welcome, Pauline. Glad I was helpful!

Great advice Susan, thanks so much! Will you be doing any updates on background effects to complement the voice over reads?
Hi Greg
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll do that in the future.
Susan
THANK YOU! GREAT ADVICE
Happy to help, Chuck!

Thanks for the tip Susan. I recently learned about ispot Tv, so thanks for mentioning that.
I have been working on my demo for the past two years and I agree that the spots make a huge difference…I had to learn the hard way…meaning the investment in creating the demo, but no regrets. Learning and this VO journey is a process over time.
What do you think about magazine ads as scripts.
Thanks again, and love hearing your Vlog…or evoice newsletter.
Hi Saundi,
I’m so glad I was helpful!
Working on your demo for two years? I think its time to get it done> 🙂
A demo is a work in progress. Just get it out there, get feedback and you can always change it later.
Go for it, girl!

This issue is one I began thinking about. I have written several “LIVING HISTORY” scripts that I performed in public schools when my kids were growing up. Is it appropriate to use snippets of those, perhaps as well as a few seconds of a commercial as you suggest?
Thank you so much.
Denise
Hi Denise,
Those scripts sound wonderful and I;m sure you are very proud of them, but I don’t suggest using them on your VO demo. Your demo should sound like actual commercials that ran on the air to stick to actual commercial and corporate copy.
Good luck with it! Susan
Always good & succinct advice. Thanks Susan!
You’re welcome, Donald! Happy to have you as a subscriber

Thank you Susan that was helpful and very useful. Yiipppeeeee!
Love your advice.
Great tip Susan! I am currently in the process of making a new demo and your advice is very timely. I appreciate the recommendation of using ispot Tv for potential scripts.
Great Susan. It seems like you almost always keep me from driving myself into a ditch.
