I’ve always been very clear that voice over is a freelance endeavor with no guarantees about how much money you’ll make.

Some people do quite well, but many others never make a penny.

(I’ve studied the difference between the two groups but that’s a subject for another blog)

Unlike your day job, there is no guaranteed paycheck and the results you get depend on talent, skill, a certain amount of business acumen and the time and effort you put into this.

One things for sure…as wonderful as your voice may be, without the right kind of effort on your part, no one is going to discover you and magically turn you into an overnight sensation.

But there is a way to stack the cards in your favor, to actually get real results in voice over you can count on over time.

  2. Thanks, Susan, for the good advice…and I would say that this applies also to the world of copywriting.

    I became interested in learning VO because of narrating my own video as a copywriter. I was told by my copywriting coach that it was all about developing a strong USP (unique selling proportion) and choosing your niche carefully. I am seeing the same is true in VO and your efforts in marketing yourself.

    I look forward to taking VO classes next month and appreciate your video messages. They are short, too the point, and a great way to connect.

      My pleasure, Kim! Yes, selling is selling, no matter what the product. You need leads and a system for moving people from prospects to customers and then you have to work that system. It is always comforting to me that this is actually scientific. if you stay focused and do the activity, you’ll get results.- Susan
