This week we’re going to take a hard look at a mindset issue that could be affecting your voice over success. I’m going to be a little blunt here so I hope you don’t mind.

So here’s the question:

When you approach potential voice buyers are you acting like a peer or (inadvertently) like a pest?

I’ll give you a quick example.

My friend, the award winning audiobook narrator Alan Sklar, is the consummate peer. He has voiced over 200 audiobooks, as well as thousands of other voice overs.

Whenever he gets an audio book assignment he calls the publisher and, if the writer is still alive, he asks permission to contact them.

Before he records a single word, he interviews the author to get salient, behind-the-scenes information about the characters and the author’s vision for the book.

Now that’s thinking like a partner, a true peer.

As a result his career is thriving.

On the other hand inadvertent pests are perpetually struggling to get things off the ground.

They need constant encouragement, are somewhat desperate, always have a ‘sob story’ and can be difficult to work with.

I’m sure you’d never intentionally pester someone, but there could be some subtle pesky head trash that’s affecting the way you think of yourself and as a result, is inadvertently undermining your success.

In this week’s Inside Voice Over Video training video blog I explore this surprising secret to voice over success. Take a look and I think you’ll come away with some key distinctions that will really empower your voice over career.
