In my voice over career I’ve auditioned for some pretty strange stuff.
A candy bar commercial where the only words in the script were Ooooo, Ahhh.
A suburban Mom where they had me read from the murder tale “In Cold Blood” by Truman Capote just to get an idea of my tone of voice. Huh?!
An audition for a cold remedy where I had to sneeze convincingly…in reverse.
Choo-ha!!
Back in the day, our auditions were live and there was someone in the room to direct us. Today, you’re on your own in your home studio.
The good news is with the exponential growth of digital media there are plenty of auditions.
The bad news is it’s rare to get any more than a few words of direction at the top of your script. So what do you do? How do you know if you’re doing the audition right?
