One of the most frustrating things about being a voice talent today is that you rarely, if ever, get feedback on your auditions.
Sure, maybe you’ll get a “like” on one of the voice casting sites but that doesn’t help when you don’t book the job.
The truth is there is no way to really know why we do or don’t get cast for a job. Sometimes it’s as simple as not getting heard and other times it’s a completely random reason like they hired a friend.
However, I’ve identified 5 factors that are real deal-breakers. Any one of them can instantly knock you out of the park and cause someone to delete your audition.
And worst of all, you might not even be aware there’s a problem.

Here’s what Bootcamp grad Agnus Gunn had to say about the experience:
“I participated in one of The Great Voice Company’s weekend Voiceover Boot Camps at the end of 2016. The experience was fantastic. It persuaded me that this voiceover dream that I’ve wondered about for so many years could indeed become a reality.. You emerge with a clear road map for advancing your voiceover career. It’s up to you what you do with that toolbox but the Boot Camp definitely equips you with everything you need. All of this is somehow achieved in the span of a thoroughly enjoyable long weekend. Considering the quality and extent of the instruction, the Boot Camp is a bargain. If you’re looking for the right on-ramp into voiceover, The Great Voice Company’s Voiceover Boot Camp is second to none. Just do it!”
This was very helpful. I just did my second EVER audition yesterday, and I’m not sure I nailed it, and it’s probably because I left off a couple of the points you made. We’see if I get the job in spite of how I felt I did, BUT in the future, I’ll be mindful of following your list of what to be aware of (it’s not like I didn’t already know it all, but I think I was overly excited about getting an audition.) Thanks for sharing this.

Good luck Andrea! 🙂
Thank you as always for your great advice !
Hello, Susan. This was a very interesting video. I had produced two samples. One was for AAA and the other was a passage from Jesus Calling. I let a friend listen to both. She told me while the AAA piece was believable and spirited, my “outside voice” didn’t really work for Jesus Calling. My voice needed to be softer and comforting, rather than that of a drill instructor. It made perfect sense, one I listened to it again. Different samples call for different tones! I’m working on it. By the way, I will be narrating a short film for my church in the near future. It may not pay, but the experience will definitely help me and will boost my resume! Thank you for all of your wonderful and insightful advice.
